This week’s SRA (Sustainable Restaurant Association) featured supplier, Bansa, offers restaurants sustainable solutions to blocked drains – a potentially costly problem. Bansa says it can also save a restaurant 400,000 litres of water a year.
The family owned company specialises in keeping drains clean and oil and grease free, with no costly chemicals. Bansa’s 'real-time' solution is proven to remove 99.9% of fat, oil and grease (FOGs) as well as solids BEFORE they enter the drain, using little energy. The company can also show you how to generate a revenue stream from this currently uncollected waste. It also means that clients are safeguarded against future FOG discharge legislation..

Chip Factory Blamed For Homes Slipping Into Sea - 23/01/2013
A housing estate inhabited largely by elderly residents is slipping off a cliff and into the North Sea because of a "river of fat" from the local chip factory, they claim.
According to a report commissioned by the residents' association, which represents the 56-home estate, leaking from pipes carrying effluent from the McCain Foods chip factory is partly to blame for the landslips.
The latest report, the result of a year-long study, apportioned some blame for the subsidence on water from the McCain factory in Osgodby, less than half a mile from the estate.
It said: "The test results of the water issues and the effluent from McCain's factory within YW (Yorkshire Water) pipes indicates that leakage of effluent within YW pipes is the most likely source of the water issues."
